Thousands of pirates fail to break record in Penzance

Thousands of people wearing pirate fancy dress gathered in Penzance, Cornwall to try to break a record.
Penzance last held the record in 2011 for the most pirates in one place with 8,734 pirates...
but Hastings in East Sussex broke that record soon after.
Swords were raised and a cannon was fired to celebrate the event. Organisers had hoped to attract 20,000 people to regain the record.
A count confirmed there were 14,154 pirates, just 77 short of a new world record.
The event was held as part of Penzance's 400th celebrations of its town charter.
