Hundreds of people braved the rain to gather at Trafalgar Square in London for a big Diwali celebration ahead of the big day on Sunday 12 November.

Diwali is the five day Festival of Lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. This year it takes place on 10-14 November.

The Trafalgar Square celebration included performances and dances from Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities.

These police officers were definitely enjoying the music and dance.

London's mayor Sadiq Khan said the Diwali celebrations across London over the next few weeks would be the biggest outside of India.

Diwali is a festival of new beginnings; the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. The name comes from the Sanskrit word deepavali, meaning "rows of lighted lamps".
