Teachers in Jersey have confirmed they intend to go ahead with school strikes next month.

Members will stay of work in those days in a protest over pay and working conditions.

The National Education Union (NEU), a group which represents lots of teachers, has said the strikes will go ahead on Tuesday 12, Wednesday 13, and Thursday 14 December.

The protests were meant to take place in November, but were postponed due to disruptions caused by Storm Ciarán.

The Jersey government has said it was disappointed at the decision to strike.

Three teaching unions have been involved in strike action in Jersey.

There's been an ongoing dispute over pay on the island, which is the largest of the Channel Islands, which sit between England and France.

The National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT), which represents head teachers, came to an agreement over pay last month.

Members of the NEU are looking to continue striking, although representative Caryn Symons says members first have to agree to the proposed dates for December before they're confirmed.

Members of NASUWT, which is another teaching union, are also still involved in an ongoing dispute with the government over pay.

The union is said to be stepping up what's known as its "action short of strike action" with "continuous" effect from next Monday.

This means teachers won't attend almost all activities outside the normal timetable for lessons, including parents evenings and school trips outside of standard school hours.

The Vice-Chair of the States Employment Board, Constable Andy Jehan, called the strikes "an unnecessary disruption" adding that teachers have already had an increase in their pay.
