'Lascelles is a great leader'

We asked whether you would keep or lose Jamaal Lascelles in the Newcastle squad.

Here are some of your thoughts:

Chris: Jamaal Lascelles is a great character and leader as well as a class player who was at one point on the fringe on the England team. His contribution to getting Newcastle back in the Premier League should not be underestimated or forgotten. He rallied a fragmented and dispirited team at crucial times. I'm amazed no other club came from him.

Sean: He should be a given a new contract pronto. His attitude and his recent performances are outstanding, other club captains should take note - also looking at the current crop of England central defenders, he should be given a chance.

Joshua: Lascelles should not get a new deal. He's not a centre-half good enough to play well in the Champions League. When he leaves in the summer, Newcastle should sign a better centre-half (like Harry Maguire in his current run of excellent form).

Simon: It's a hard call, we have to be mindful of the future and get new blood in. Jamal has had a great run but maybe it's all come too late. Newcastle need to bolster their defence with new and younger blood like Botman. It's called progress! He will get a new deal elsewhere.
