'Proud moment' for Walker to lead England

Manchester City full-back Kyle Walker, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after captaining England in Monday's 1-1 draw against North Macedonia:
"It was a really proud moment when the manager [Gareth Southgate] pulled me aside on Monday afternoon and told me I'd be leading the team out. I'm doing that for Manchester City now, but to do it for my country is a really big step in the right direction and another thing I've ticked off my list."
On the result and hopes for next summer's European Championship:
"We knew coming here that we should win, but the group was wrapped up and it was always going to be a difficult one. I said at the start of the team talk that it's about our mentality now. We've all matured, we've all been in big situations - Champions League finals, fighting for Premier League titles, semi-finals of a World Cup, the final of the Euros - now it's about mentality on and off the field to make sure we take this country to where it deserves, and that's hopefully picking up that European [Championship] trophy."
