'Aberdeen take a massive amount of credit' - Thompson

Former Scotland striker Steven Thompson says Aberdeen can "take a massive amount of credit" for their 2-2 draw away to PAOK in the Europa Conference League.

Barry Robson's side showed great resilience and character to take a point from a game they were widely expected to lose

“It’s a great result," Thompson said on Sportsound. "Everybody talked before the game about how horrific of a place it was to go and try and get a win, in terms of it just being so hostile, so to go out there and get a hard fought draw, they’ve got to take a massive amount of credit.

“PAOK have got better players than Aberdeen, but Aberdeen were superb. They didn’t create that many opportunities but they took the ones that they did and they defended with their lives.

“Barry Robson is right to put a positive spin on it, it’s a great away point but the problem for them is that they aren’t going to qualify - they’re out of Europe.

“They will look back on the campaign and think that they were close in a number of games to getting results that might have put them in a position where they might have done better, but it’s a learning experience for Barry and the squad to be in European football and they’ll be pushing to try and get there next year and give a better account of themselves.”
