'Johnston lifted tempo for Celtic'

It wasn't too long ago that Mikey Johnston's Celtic career looked to be over, but after a game-changing cameo off the bench on Sunday, he may have forced himself further into Brendan Rodgers' plans.

On the Scottish Football Podcast, BBC journalist and commentator Thomas Duncan highlighted the Ireland international's contributions as Celtic came from behind to beat St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.

"Celtic started brightly enough but then tailed off and were a bit slow and pedestrian, which I think they have been at times in recent domestic games," Duncan said.

"But then, second half, Brendan Rogers makes the change. He brings on Mikey Johnston, who's come from nowhere in the last few games off the bench. He was absolutely outstanding down the right. He was constantly running at Dara Costelloe and getting balls into the box, he certainly just lifted the whole tempo.

"Two outstanding goals from Callum McGregor and Matt O'Riley as well, with O'Reilly's work all the way from the back and then that finish on his right foot - sensational."

"Celtic just lifted it in the second half and I felt sorry for St. Johnsone by the end, they put so much in.

"Although, they could have nicked it but for Joe Hart clawing that one from Jay Turner-Cooke off the line. It was a cracking game."
