Former Everton winger Pat Nevin shared his memories of the late Bill Kenwright on BBC Radio Merseyside: "First of all he was an Evertonian through and through, 100%. We all know that there have been difficult times lately, but the fact is he still absolutely and utterly loved the club as much as anything else in his life. There were lots of other things he loved and we all know that as well.

"He came to the club just after the time I arrived and slowly but surely over the years he became a more and more important part of the club. He did put his time, his money, his love and his effort into the club for a long time. I remember one very specific time just as I was leaving the club and he came over to me was I was going out and he said 'I’m gutted mate'. He didn’t need to say it. It’s just that smile he’s got on his face, that kind and caring consideration that he always had with people. It meant a lot to me at the time that somebody like him made the effort to come and say that.

"I don’t think anyone can argue that he did put so much into the club. He was a lover of the club and to have people at the club who loved it means one thing, but it can actually put you down some strange things that some businessmen wouldn’t do because you’re led with your heart sometimes more than your head."
