Magpies podcaster Andrew Musgrove spoke to BBC Radio Newcastle's Newcastle United Podcast about the St James' Park club's January transfer window strategy, given their injury issues: "I don't think Newcastle's transfer team like to deviate much from their original plans. You saw it in the chase of Sven Botman. We didn't get him the first time round but they stuck to their guns and we seem to work from a certain list.

"I don't think they'll look at the injuries and change what they are going to do. I think they'll have a set agenda, and will stick as closely to it as possible.

"I would look at bringing in another striker in January. With the injuries to Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, maybe you go out and find a striker who can rival both of them right now. Can you really rely on both of them to get through the majority of games? With where we want to be and where we want to go, you need a striker you can rely upon.

"I think Callum Wilson is a fantastic goalscorer, but we're seeing that injury record keep coming back. He keeps getting impacted by one injury or another, and Newcastle can't rely on him. Isak keeps getting injuries as well. Do we need a third quality striker?

"Whoever comes in needs to have a real opportunity to be first choice"
