James Tavernier insists Rangers must "do their talking on the pitch" as the Ibrox club ready themselves for a crucial League Cup semi-final versus Motherwell.

The trip to Hampden Park comes after a deflating 2-1 away loss to Aberdeen, which stretched the gap between Philippe Clement's side and the unbeaten Dons.

Scrutiny of Clement and the players has intensified following the damaging defeat as Rangers now sit nine points behind both Celtic and Aberdeen in the Premiership.

"I totally understand the frustrations because ultimately they want to see us win games," captain Tavernier said.

"There is frustration among ourselves, we never want to go to a place and drop points or lose games. I'm doing everything possible in my power, as are the players in the dressing room, to put in the performances the fans will be proud of.

"We've got to work hard every day. We can talk all we want but ultimately we have to do our talking on the pitch."

Tavernier states he remains in constant conversation with under-presser boss Clement as the team rally to seek improvements in both performances and results.

"We always want to improve," he said. "But it is important to have that dialogue with the squad and demand more from each other.

"The players are fully committed to turning anything around. The lads want to win games. The manager is getting criticism, the team are getting criticism, but that's what happens when you don't get the results.

A win on Sunday at the national stadium would likely alleviate some pressure on Clement and the Rangers squad.

And will also give Tavernier a chance to rectify past missed opportunities by adding to his silverware as Ibrox captain.

He added: "Over the years, I can obviously say I would’ve loved more trophies and more medals - which obviously isn't the case - but I can't change the past."
