The international break has came at a good time for Newcastle United - not for momentum, but for injuries. This squad is getting tested already in the opening stages of the season. Thrown into the deep end of Europe’s elite, playing Paris St-Germain on a Wednesday, then travelling to West Ham United on a Sunday.
However, they’re currently passing the test with flying colours. Even without several key players, including their main defender in Sven Botman and midfield powerhouse Joelinton, the Toon Army have had an incredible week.
Many fans came out of St James' Park after thrashing the French champions 4-1 saying it was the best night of their lives. Local lad Dan Burn outscoring the world's best player Kylian Mbappe was a thing of fairytales.
A very solid Premier League point on the road a few days later and Newcastle are now unbeaten in their past seven games.
Since the last international break, Eddie Howe’s Magpies have been flying - but it has taken its toll. Injuries are mounting up and there will be two or three games a week once the club action resumes.
This international break gives the opportunity for the players and staff to recharge and prepare to carry on what promises to be another electrifying season on Tyneside.
