Lee Haskins' promoter Jamie Sanigar has confirmed that "initial discussions" have taken place with IBF bantamweight world champion Randy Caballero.

Haskins, 32, won the interim belt last month with a stunning sixth-round stoppage of Ryosuke Iwasa in Bristol.

Caballero has not fought since October 2014 because of injury, but had been planning a comeback fight in August.

Instead, he will now face Haskins, with Sanigar hopeful the pair could meet in September or October.

"Initial discussions have taken place and we are only interested in the the fight taking place in the UK," Sanigar told BBC Sport.

However, in an interview with the Ring,, external Caballero said he hoped the fight would take place on neutral territory at the very least.

"Lee Haskins is a tough guy and I want to be 110% ready for that fight," he added.

Sanigar confirmed Haskins now was back in the gym "ticking over" and would be ready for a world title fight with Caballero in eight to 10 weeks.

Caballero is unbeaten in 22 fights and beat Stuart Hall last year to claim the vacant IBF belt, while Haskins took his record to 32 victories and three defeats with his win over Japan's Iwasa.
