Burton Albion 1-1 York City

  • Published

Lowly York battled to a point at promotion-chasing Burton to make it six draws in their last eight games.

Burton's Robbie Weir fired straight at keeper Aaron McCarey, while Rene Howe failed to get a touch to Alex MacDonald's cross from a yard out.

The visitors went ahead when substitute Michael Coulson's cross skidded in off the head of Shane Cansdell-Sherriff.

Burton levelled when Billy Kee latched onto Damien McCrory's ball and rifled a low shot inside a post from 10 yards.

Burton boss Gary Rowett told BBC Radio Derby:

"After going a goal down, you'd have to see it as a point gained.

"I just felt as though there was an opportunity in this game at home to York to get a win. However, I think the first time we did anything we'd worked on in the week was after 25 or 30 minutes, when we put some quality balls into their box.

"Had we started the game how we wanted I'm sure we would have created more. I still felt as though we created chances, but I'd like to create more if I'm honest.

"We haven't quite come together as an attacking force yet."

York manager Nigel Worthington told BBC Radio York:

"I thought we were solid, and we competed very very well. There's not many teams who come to Burton and go away with something.

"It was a very good competitive game, I was delighted with the goal we got, but a little disappointed with their goal at the near post.

"It's a great point away from home. We just have to keep working hard, keep playing, keep believing and look forward to Oxford next week."
