Craig Mahon scored twice as Chester hit back from 2-0 down to move to within six points of the play-off places.
Ryan Hayes set up Lee Noble to volley Dartford into an early lead and Noble then crossed for Elliot Bradbrook to head their second in the 47th minute.
Seven minutes later it was 2-2 as Mahon scored from 12 yards and then hit his second from John Rooney's pass.
Matty Hughes hit Chester's third goal in 11 minutes with a low shot, before Rhys Oates coolly scored the fourth.
Chester climb two places to 14th in the Conference table, while Dartford remain inside the bottom four - three points adrift of safety.
Chester manager Steve Burr told BBC Radio Merseyside:
"I don't mind conceding two goals when we score four. Dartford was a difficult place to come, but we've put on a good show, so it is a great result for us.
"We were very frustrated at half-time because we felt our build-up play was very good but in that final third we just didn't cause Dartford enough problems as an attacking force.
"But we looked at it in the break and, in the second half, our final third play was extremely good to watch and it was nice to see some moves finished off."
