Bristol City extended their lead at the top of League One to five points with a win at play-off chasing Doncaster.

Luke Freeman opened the scoring as he reacted quickest to a blocked Aaron Wilbraham pass and fired in a low shot.

Greg Cunningham doubled City's lead from the penalty spot after Kieran Agard was fouled by Andy Butler.

Rovers pulled one back through Curtis Main's powerful shot, but Wilbraham sealed the win soon after as he converted Cunningham's cross.

Doncaster remain one place outside the play-off places by virtue of goal difference after Bradford City were beaten by third-placed Swindon Town.

Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill told BBC Radio Bristol:

Cotterill on Doncaster v Bristol City

"It's a really tough place to come and get a result, especially when we've played them a few times already this season. The players get to know each other.

"We didn't have to find too much of a response from Saturday. We just had a bad half an hour.

"The performance wasn't something we had to up tonight.

"But saying that, coming to Doncaster you have to make sure you perform well."
