Cheltenham Town 2-0 Tranmere Rovers

  • Published

Russell Milton celebrated his first win in charge of Cheltenham as his side secured three points against Tranmere.

Returning loan striker Shaun Harrad fired a cross towards Eliot Richards but the ball smashed into Danny Holmes and into his own net for the opener.

Defender Brown added a second for the hosts after the break when he headed home Matt Richards' free-kick.

The Robins then made goal-line clearances to deny Jordan Hugill and Jennison Myrie-Williams late on.

It was a first home win for Cheltenham since October and their first clean sheet at Whaddon Road since September.

Milton's side are now a point above the drop zone in 21st, while Tranmere are one place ahead of them on goal difference.

Cheltenham Town caretaker manager Russell Milton told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

Milton on Cheltenham v Tranmere

"We started really well. In the first 15 minutes we got the goal and it's important that when we're on top of games we do that from now on.

"Pablo Mills is not match fit yet, so God knows what he's going to be like when he's match fit. He broke things up, he's like a manager out there.

"It was a fully deserved, a great clean sheet. Now we've got to make Whaddon Road a fortress and look to win these games here."
