Barnet's automatic promotion hopes suffered a setback as they slipped to a third defeat in four games despite taking the lead against Forest Green.
John Akinde's penalty put the hosts ahead after he was fouled by goalkeeper Steve Arnold.
Forest Green equalised through Dale Bennett's 25-yard finish before Jon Parkin put them ahead after Elliott Frear struck the post twice.
Kurtis Guthrie's header made it 3-1, to leave Barnet two points off the top.
Forest Green, who are fifth in the table, are now unbeaten in their last 11 Conference games.
Forest Green Rovers manager Ady Pennock told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:
Ady Pennock on Barnet v Forest Green
"Barnet are doing really well and have had a fantastic season and I think we gave them too much respect in the first half an hour.
"We've got players at home still with (James Norwood) and Sam Wedgbury still injured, and I've said from day one it's all about the squad and the togetherness at the club now is exactly where I want it to be.
"I've got a (points) target in my head and if we don't get in the play offs with that target in my head, I think we'll be very unlucky."
