Boreham Wood 0-1 Aldershot Town

  • Published

Charlie Walker's early goal earned Aldershot victory over managerless Boreham Wood.

Ian Allinson resigned on Monday and the hosts made a slow start, falling behind when Walker bundled the ball home after Richard Brodie's shot hit the post.

But Boreham Wood rallied and could easily have snatched a point after an improved second-half performance.

The closest they came was when Ricky Shakes forced a save from Phil Smith, with a little help from the post.

Aldershot manager Barry Smith told BBC Surrey:

Smith on Boreham Wood v Aldershot

"As I said to the players, when you are not playing well you have to be resilient. We know we can play better and we know that's not a standard we've set ourselves, but when you're not playing well and you get three points and a clean sheet, you can't complain too much.

"I was looking at the positives on how we defended well from the front. Charlie (Walker) gets his goal and he put a shift in, and big Broads (Richard Brodie) is working hard for the team.

"A clean sheet is down to concentration and we've stressed that the back four must concentrate for the whole 90 minutes, but they are only as good as their last game and we have to make sure they do the same in the next game."
