Halifax succumbed to their third straight National League defeat at the hands of improving Chester.
On-loan striker James Roberts gave Chester the lead when he linked up with Tom Shaw and his long-range effort found the top corner.
Johnny Hunt doubled the hosts' advantage when he slotted home following a good team move.
Jordan Burrow's long-range strike gave the Shaymen hope but Chester held on and climb up to 14th in the table.
Defeat for Halifax leaves them still in 23rd, two points above bottom club Kidderminster.
