On-loan Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic gave Monaco their first home league win of the season and prevented Angers from going second in Ligue 1.

Pasalic, 20, volleyed home Lacina Traore's knock-down in the 36th-minute to hand Angers a second league defeat.

Rony Lopes side-footed wide a simple chance to add a second for Monaco, who are now unbeaten in eight games.

Angers, in the top flight for the first time in 21 years, almost earned a late point but Cheikh Ndoye headed wide.

Earlier, sixth-placed Nice were held to a 0-0 draw at home by struggling Lille.

In the evening kick-off, Georges N'Koudou scored against his former club to give Marseille a 1-0 win at Nantes.
