Tranmere Rovers 0-1 Dover Athletic

  • Published

Ryan Bird's late penalty was enough to hand Dover maximum points as they returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win against Tranmere at Prenton Park.

The away side looked like they might take an early lead with efforts from Jamie Allen and Mitch Pinnock missing the target within the opening 10 minutes, while - down at the other end - Mitch Walker was well placed to save Andy Mangan's 30-yard free-kick.

Ritchie Sutton also tested Walker midway through the first half and Andy Cook fired a long-range thunderbolt wide as Rovers looked to break the deadlock.

But it was summer signing Bird that got his name on the scoresheet as he stepped up to take a penalty - awarded after he was brought down by Ritchie Sutton - and made no mistake with 10 minutes remaining to send Dover up three places to sixth in the table.
