Dover moved a point clear at the top of the National League despite being held to a goalless draw at Gateshead.
The leaders were made to work hard for their point, which extends their unbeaten run to nine league matches.
In manager Steve Watson's first home game in charge, Gateshead were unfortunate not to find the net.
They hit the crossbar twice through winger Luke Hannant, first in the 22nd minute when he volleyed against the woodwork from Paddy Mclaughin's cross.
Then also in the 90th minute when, having met JJ O'Donnell's delivery, he was denied again.
