Newport County are now unbeaten in three League Two away games
Newport and Macclesfield played out a goalless draw at Moss Rose as both teams failed to take their chances.
Elliot Durrel wasted the best chance of the first half for the hosts as his heavy touch was collected by Joe Day when one-on-one with the County keeper.
Newport's Ben Kennedy, Robbie Willmott and Scot Bennett were all denied by Kieran O'Hara in the second half.
County's play-off challenge is still in their own hands while Macclesfield remain two points above the bottom two.
Newport County manager Michael Flynn told BBC Radio Wales Sport:
"We didn't have too many clear-cut chances but I thought we dominated the game from start to finish.
"My players gave me everything. I can't praise them enough, they were excellent... and we should have had a penalty.
"Did that cost us the game? It could have. But I don't want to rely on those decisions, because I think we are better than that.
"It is still in our hands. We are seven unbeaten and I thought we played very well.
"We are not downhearted, I am very positive, we have one less game and we have made ground on a couple of teams."
