League One

Plymouth Argyle 2-0 Cheltenham Town

In-form Plymouth Argyle registered their sixth successive win as they beat Cheltenham Town 2-0 to consolidate fourth place in League One.

Niall Ennis struck early for the play-off hopefuls as his a powerful low effort went in off the inside of the far post having skilfully cut in from the left.

Danny Mayor spectacularly doubled the lead shortly before half time as he lifted the ball over Owen Evans with the outside of his right foot from the edge of the area.

Alfie May had an 83rd-minute goal for Cheltenham ruled out for offside as the visitors lost for the first time in three games.

Argyle have now won nine of their 11 league games since the start of February and are two points behind third-placed Milton Keynes Dons and seven clear of Sunderland who occupy the final play-off spot.

Cheltenham started well with top-scorer May looking bright as he forced an early save from Michael Cooper.

But Ennis - who earned a recall to the starting line-up after scoring in Saturday's 4-0 win over Accrington - struck for a second successive game before forcing an excellent save from Owen Evans five minutes later with a header from a corner.

Ryan Hardie saw an effort deflected just wide of the Cheltenham post before Cooper made a fine double save from Matty Blair five minutes from the break.

But Mayor's moment of class soon after saw Argyle double the lead just before the break while Hardie hit the side netting seconds after the restart.

Hardie, Joe Edwards and Ennis all went close for Argyle as the second half wore on while May and Charlie Raglan had efforts for the visitors.

But Cheltenham could not find a way through as Argyle kept a sixth successive clean sheet.

League Two

Harrogate 0-3 Leyton Orient

Leyton Orient ended their longest run without an away win since 1997 following an emphatic 3-0 triumph at Harrogate.

The O's had not prevailed in any of their previous 14 league games on the road since mid-September, but top scorer Aaron Drinan bagged a brace - his first goals since December to take his season's tally to 15 - and Ruel Sotiriou wrapped up matters.

Earlier, Theo Archibald had come closest to a first-half goal when he rattled the base of home keeper Mark Oxley's left-hand upright from eight yards.

The visitors went on to open the scoring in the 51st minute when Harrogate defender Rory McArdle's clearance struck team-mate Alex Pattison, releasing Drinan through the right channel and he drove inside Oxley's near post from 12 yards after ineffective defending by Warren Burrell.

Drinan grabbed his second of the game six minutes later with a deflected eight-yard effort after Omar Beckles had headed on Shadrach Ogie's long throw from the left.

At the other end, Jack Diamond struck the outside of Lawrence Vigouroux's near post - but the outcome was put beyond doubt following more shoddy defending by the hosts.

McArdle twice gave the ball away just outside his own penalty area, which left Sotiriou to beat an exposed Oxley after charging through the left channel on 73 minutes.

Harrogate sub Simon Power then hit the crossbar, but Harry Smith might have rubbed salt in the home wounds when he struck a post in stoppage time.

Oldham 1-3 Sutton

A brace from Ricky Korboa helped secure Sutton a routine 3-1 victory at struggling Oldham.

The U's edged to within goal difference of the play-off places, while the Latics' fifth loss on the spin leaves them in deep trouble in the relegation zone.

Oldham went close early on when Hallam Hope headed over after meeting Nicky Adams' precise cross.

Sutton then broke the deadlock in bizarre fashion in the 20th minute. Korboa saw the ball trickle past goalkeeper Danny Rogers after he had charged down a poor clearance attempt from Oldham left-back Benny Couto.

Sutton's Adam Lovatt was next to threaten when he headed straight at Rogers.

With the visitors dominating, centre-back Ben Goodliffe's overhead-kick only just cleared the crossbar.

Sutton doubled their advantage shortly after the restart when Korboa darted on to Kenny Davis' through-ball before tucking coolly past Rogers.

Hope almost halved Oldham's deficit when his angled snapshot struck the crossbar, only for substitute Harry Beautyman to make it three from the penalty spot after Tope Obadeyi had felled David Ajiboye.

Oldham youngster Will Sutton headed home a late consolation.

Port Vale 0-0 Exeter

Port Vale missed a chance to break into the play-off places as automatic promotion chasers Exeter achieved a 0-0 League Two draw at Vale Park.

Vale, still with assistant boss Andy Crosby in charge with manager Darrell Clarke on compassionate leave, needed a fourth straight win to climb into the top seven.

Instead, the Potteries outfit drop to ninth as Matt Taylor's second-placed Grecians earned a valuable point.

It could have been all three for the Grecians - beaten just once in 15 matches - but Jevani Brown's 74th-minute curler struck the crossbar.

Vale posed their greatest threat in the opening period. One-time Manchester United prospect James Wilson was denied by Cameron Dawson's fingertips after eight minutes.

And it was the same outcome after 20 minutes as the keeper thwarted the striker's hopes of a 10th goal of the season.

Brown looked most likely to break the deadlock for City. Defender Connor Hall blocked a first-half attempt and his 61st-minute shot was saved by Aidan Stone before a penalty appeal was waved away.

Rochdale 0-1 Mansfield

Mansfield boosted their play-off chances with a 1-0 win over Rochdale thanks to substitute Jordan Bowery's late strike at the Crown Oil Arena.

Jay Lynch denied Rhys Oates on four occasions but Bowery's late effort helped seal the points for the visitors.

Dale came close on 13 minutes when James Ball saw his effort from outside the area deflect wide.

The Stags could have gone ahead just before the half-hour mark when Oates capitalised on some loose Rochdale possession but smashed straight at Lynch.

The hosts nearly had the opener in the 54th minute but Matt Done could not quite divert his half-volley past Nathan Bishop.

The best chances of the second half fell to the visitors, with Oates' powerful effort from 20 yards saved by Lynch before Jamie Murphy failed to guide his strike on target.

The decisive moment came in the 86th minute when Oates' low driven cross found Bowery at the far post and he emphatically finished to reduce the gap to the top seven to just two points and leave Rochdale without a win in six.
