Spain are not out for revenge against Scotland, insists manager Luis de la Fuente, as the sides prepare for their Euro 2024 qualifying re-match.

Steve Clarke's side won 2-0 at Hampden back in March courtesy of goals from Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

Spain are six points behind Group A leaders Scotland, who need just a point to qualify, with a game in hand.

"We've got an obligation to win," De la Fuente said.

"It's our responsibility professionally because we respect the whole country. It's not revenge, it's a football game, very important, but a football game.

"It will be a very hard game, a tough game. We respect the Scotland national team a lot and their players.

"We will have to play at our best level in order to win because we're playing against a top level team."

Since that loss in March, Spain defeated Italy and Croatia on their way to winning the Nations League, and have scored 13 goals in their last two qualifiers against Georgia and Cyprus.

De la Fuente says it's clear his team have got better since the sides last met.

"It's obvious just looking at the statistics, that we've improved," the Spain boss added.

"The team has improved in all aspects of the game. We have many different ways of attacking the way we play together as a team, I think we have possibilities to play with wingers coming in and defensively we are very secure, very strong. So the sensation of the team is great. I feel we've improved a lot."
