Ben Doak says Andy Robertson has been a good influence on him

Scotland Under-21 winger Ben Doak says Liverpool team-mate and national captain Andy Robertson "keeps me grounded" amid a rise to prominence.

Doak, 17, has made eight first-team appearances for Liverpool since his move from Celtic last year, including two recent starts.

The forward is set to feature in Scotland Under-21s' double-header against Hungary and Malta.

"He's done everything in the game," Doak said of Robertson.

"He's won everything. He keeps me grounded. I was with them [the first team] a little bit last season, but now I'm properly training with them every day and just trying to learn from them all because some of them are the best in the world."

Doak scored on his Scotland Under-21 debut just over a year ago away to Northern Ireland, and now hopes to help Scot Gemmell's team reach Euro 2025.

They opened their qualifying campaign away in Spain, losing 1-0 after conceding a late goal.

Doak believes that performance can give the young Scots encouragement for the games at Fir Park against Hungary on Friday and Malta on Tuesday.

"We pushed one of the best teams in the world at this level right to the very end," he told the Scottish FA.

"We were gutted to concede when we did, but we can take a lot of positives from it and hopefully go and win the game on Friday.

"If we won last month it really would have helped us, but these games are at home so everything's on our terms so that's where we need to be getting our points."
