Glentoran goalkeeper Aaron McCarey went into the stand to try to defuse the situation
The Police Service of Northern Ireland is carrying out enquiries into reports of security staff being assaulted during Crusaders' match against Glentoran on Saturday.
The incident seemed to occur when Glens supporters tried to get into the stand behind the net at the Shore Road end of the Seaview stadium amid heavy rain.
Glentoran goalkeeper Aaron McCarey jumped into the stand to intervene.
The PSNI confirmed it has received a report of an assault.
"Police received a report of an assault of security staff at a football match in the Shore Road area on Saturday, 28 October," a police statement said.
"At around 3.50pm [15:50 GMT], officers attended and spoke to a number of security staff who said they had been assaulted during half time at the football match.
"Enquiries are ongoing and police would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to the incident to contact 101 quoting reference number."
On Monday, Glentoran confirmed they will investigate the incident.
Crusaders announced earlier this season that the stand at that end of the ground was being reserved as a family stand for home supporters.
Saturday's Irish Premiership match, during which Glentoran's Bobby Burns suffered a broken jaw when he collided with advertising hoardings on the side of the pitch, finished 1-1.
