Former Bristol City and Millwall player Becki Tweed has been named the new permanent head coach of Angel City FC.

Tweed was appointed as the American side's assistant coach in January and had been interim boss since June.

She led the Los Angeles-based side to a fifth-placed finish in the National Women's Soccer League last season, before they lost in the quarter-finals of the play-offs in October.

Tweed becomes the NWSL's sixth English manager.

Casey Stoney, Laura Harvey, Seb Hines and Mike Norris all manage in the American league, while Sarah Lowdon is currently in interim charge of Houston Dash.

Angel City, who were formed in 2020 and played their first season in 2022, reached the play-offs for the first time last season under Tweed's management.

Among the club's extensive high-profile backers are tennis icons Serena Williams and Billie Jean King, Winter Olympic gold medallist Lindsey Vonn, actresses Eva Longoria, Jennifer Garner and Natalie Portman, TV host James Corden, former US soccer stars Abby Wambach and Mia Hamm and a number of entrepreneurs, YouTubers, pop stars and other former sports professionals.
