Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton says he liked Pep Guardiola's full-time reaction of gesturing the six Premier League titles he has won at Manchester City after being taunted by Liverpool fans singing "sacked in the morning" at Anfield.

"It shows he has fire in his belly and a bit of fight," said Sutton on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club.

Guardiola will need to use that if he is to turn-around City's misfortunes and close the 11 point gap on Arne Slot's side.

Senior writer for global sport The Athletic, Rory Smith added: "We know he is a wonderful manager but he has not faced anything like this before. There is no comparable spell.

"There were points in his first year at City where things weren't going swimmingly and in his last year at Barcelona there were rumblings of discontent, but he has faced no slump in form like this.

"It is a new challenge for him and it might bring out the best in him and his players. But because he's never faced it before, it will be genuinely interesting to see how he manages it."
