Darren Clarke missed out on a first Champions Tour win after carding a final-round 74 at the SAS Championship in North Carolina.

The Northern Irishman, 52, was the co-leader heading into final 18 holes but finished five back of winner Ernie Els on seven-under-par.

Clarke was aiming for a first win since the 2011 Open Championship.

However, a two-over-par round including three birdies and five bogeys saw him finish in a tie for 11th place.

Els finished one stroke ahead of Colin Montgomerie after shooting a six-under-par 66 to finish at 12-under and claim his second Champions Tour title.
