What a finish to the final game of the day as 20-year-old Lewis McManus and 18-year-old Mason Crane survived the final 5.2 overs to earn Hampshire a draw against Durham.

Set 305 to win, they slumped to 39-5 as Chris Rushworth completed a hat-trick for the visitors by having Michael Carberry caught behind.

The home side eventually reached 167-9 following a rain interruption, but McManus struck the final ball of the match for four to bring up a maiden first-class fifty.

Another rain shower has given Hampshire renewed hope of escaping from the match with a draw.

Just 24 overs were left when the players left the field and although they are now back in the middle, that number has been reduced by nine.

The rain delay did not last long in Southampton, but Hampshire are facing a battle to save the game against Durham.

Joe Gatting fell shortly after the resumption, but Gareth Berg (36) and Lewis McManus (30 not out) showed some fight with a stand of 53.

However Berg has just been bowled by Scott Borthwick.

Hampshire have got just under 30 overs to survive.

BBC Newcastle's Martin Emmerson at The Ageas Bowl:

"They have taken an early tea here with Hants struggling on 75-5. It is raining but hopefully it is a passing shower.

"The innings got off to the worst start when Chris Rushworth got Michael Carberry first ball, to complete an unusual hat-trick which covered three overs and two innings.

"The last example of a hat-trick across two innings in this country and possibly the only one, also involved Hampshire when Tony Lock did it for Leicestershire in Portsmouth in 1967.

"The hosts are chasing 305 to win."

Jonny Bairstow has celebrated his England Ashes call up by smashing 74 not out off 51 balls to see Yorkshire to victory against Worcestershire.

The wicketkeeper came in with his side wobbling on 44-3, but struck three sixes and nine fours as he shared 113 in 18 overs with Alex Lees (58 not out).

Yorkshire now hold a 34 point lead at the top of Division One with a game in hand on second place Warwickshire.

Well that didn't take long for Division Two leaders Lancashire to beat Glamorgan!

The hosts lost their last five wickets for 12 runs to be bowled out for 193.

James Faulkner dismissed Cooke (56) before Simon Kerrigan (4-28) and Arron Lilley (3-38) wrapped up the tail.

Lancashire are surely going straight back up to Division One. They have a 68 point cushion over third place Glamorgan.

Durham paceman Chris Rushworth has claimed three wickets to leave Hampshire in deep trouble at The Ageas Bowl.

James Vince's wretched season in the Championship has continued after he was out for nought, lbw to Ryan Pringle, and the hosts have also lost Jimmy Adams and Liam Dawson after lunch.

Their pursuit of 305 seems unlikely.

Yorkshire have lost two wickets after lunch to make their target of 157 seem a little more difficult than it did at the start of the innings.

Alex Lees is unbeaten on 31 and Jonny Bairstow, fresh from his England Test call up, has just walked to the crease.

Yorkshire need another 101 to win.

The rain has finally relented and the fourth day is now under way between Glamorgan and Lancashire.

Lancashire need five more wickets to wrap up the win, but Chris Cooke and Andrew Salter are currently standing firm with an unbroken half-century partnership.

BBC Newcastle's Martin Emmerson at The Ageas Bowl:

"Durham bowler Chris Rushworth has recorded a hat-trick across three overs and two innings.

"He bowled James Tomlinson for nought at the end of Hampshire's first innings and then finished that innings with his first ball of his next over as Gareth Berg was caught by John Hastings for 31.

"Then with the first ball of the second innings he had Michael Carberry caught behind.

"The only other Durham player to take a hat-trick in the championship was Steve Harmison who took them in consecutive balls in the same over when doing it against Worcestershire in 2005 and Sussex in 2008.

"At lunch Hampshire are 24-1, chasing 305 to win."

BBC Radio Leeds' Dave Callaghan at Scarborough:

"Yorkshire have started the task of getting 157 runs to win their game at Scarborough.

"With poor weather predicted, Yorkshire set about the task with relish. They lost opener Will Rhodes for 12 to the spin of Saeed Ajmal and at lunch they are 34-1 from seven overs.

"Lees is 20 and Leaning yet to score. A further 123 needed for the defending champions."

Paul Collingwood has called an end to the Durham innings half an hour before lunch after his side set a target of 305

Division One's bottom side Hampshire will have a minimum of 72 overs to chase them in.

They are adrift by 26 points, so you feel they'll have to go for the win. It should be a cracking afternoon at The Ageas Bowl.

BBC Newcastle's Martin Emmerson:

"The decision meant debutant Mason Crane was robbed of the chance to get his first championship five-for as the 18-year-old was left with figures of 4-72.

"He has been given his first professional contract today too."

A brief last-wicket cameo worth 26 from Saeed Ajmal and Charlie Morris has come to an end after Morris was bowled by Ryan Sidebottom.

Worcestershire are all out for 306, setting Yorkshire a target of 157 for their seventh Championship win of the season.

Durham have built a lead of 265 over Hampshire after scoring 90 runs in 16 overs this morning.

Mark Stoneman is 69 not out and captain Paul Collingwood has smashed four boundaries in his opening 10 balls to signal plenty of intent.

A declaration is surely on the cards just before or during the lunch interval at The Ageas Bowl.

Meanwhile there will be no play before lunch at Colwyn Bay between Glamorgan and Lancashire.

Yorkshire have just taken two Worcestershire wickets in three balls to give themselves a great chance of victory at Scarborough.

Jack Shantry was the first one to fall, bowled by Jack Brooks, before Ross Whiteley was trapped lbw by Ryan Sidebottom for 101.

Worcestershire's lead is only 132 and Yorkshire remain heavy favourites to extend their lead at the top of Division One.

After a flurry of boundaries from Worcestershire in the opening half-hour, Steven Patterson has picked up the first of four wickets Yorkshire need.

Joe Leach is the man to go, as Liam Plunkett pulls off a sharp catch at short cover.

The lead is up to 102 and Ross Whiteley has moved onto 81. Is there a slight chance for Worcestershire here?

Play is underway at Scarborough and The Ageas Bowl, but I'm afraid it's a different story in north Wales between Glamorgan and Lancashire where the start has been delayed.

At Scarborough champions Yorkshire will be looking for four quick Worcestershire wickets and then a smallish run chase in a bid to wrap up their seventh Division One Championship win of the summer.

The visitors are currently 221-6, a lead of 71, and their hopes of salvaging a result from the match seem set to lie with Ross Whiteley (65 not out) and the in-form Joe Leach who is unbeaten on 14.

Durham need to push on with the bat at The Ageas Bowl to set Hampshire a target, but time will probably be against them.

Durham only hold a lead of 175, but have nine wickets in hand, and will probably need to bat until lunch to make sure Hants have no chance of victory.

In Division Two, Glamorgan face a huge battle to save the game against leaders Lancashire at Colwyn Bay.

Following on, Glamorgan are 146-5 in their second innings, but still 204 runs behind Lancashire's mammoth 698-5 declared they compiled over the first two days.
