Chiavarini was born in Rome but his family moved to Scotland when he was a child
Britain's Lorenzo Chiavarini won the Laser class at the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Qingdao, China, on Sunday.
A sixth-place finish in the final race meant Chiavarini, 21, finished 19 points clear ahead of Tonci Stipanovic, with Pavlos Kontides third.
"I was a bit nervous," he said. "But once I got out on the water everything started calming down. The track was shorter so the gains were less today."
Britain's Elliott Hanson came fourth, finishing ninth overall.
