Leading Welsh Grand National hope Silver By Nature has suffered a fatal injury.

The 11 year-old grey, trained by Lucinda Russell, broke a hind leg on the gallops at her stables in Scotland on Saturday morning.

A statement on the trainer's website read: "The world is a sadder place without him."

The 2009 Welsh National runner-up won seven races and was due to compete at Chepstow on 28 December.
