Fly through a major galactic survey
A team of astronomers has published a multi-coloured survey of five large chunks of space - and offered the best estimate yet of how fast the Universe is fading.
This "fly-through" animation shows one of the five wedges, with the galaxies enlarged so that you can see them clearly.
The Galaxy and Mass Assembly (GAMA) survey has built up a 3D vision of these regions across 21 different wavelengths.
The video was made in 2014 by Will Parr, Mark Swinbank and Peder Norberg of Durham University, using data from GAMA as well as the Sloane Digital Sky Survey (SDSS).
