Sir Lenny Henry and Roy Hudd are joining the cast of Broadchurch for the third series, ITV has announced.
A picture of David Tennant and Olivia Colman on their first day of filming has been released, including a few more details about the final series which will bring a new case for DI Alec Hardy (Tennant) and DS Ellie Miller (Coleman) as they reunite to investigate a serious sexual assault.
Characters from the previous two series including Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan will return to play Beth and Mark Latimer, while new characters played by Julie Hesmondhalgh, Bafta winner Georgina Campbell and Sarah Parish will also feature.
We're told the series explores the consequences of the sexual assault as a Dorset community comes under the scrutiny of Hardy and Miller’s investigation.
Writer Chris Chibnall said he hopes it is an appropriate farewell for the award-winning show.
