A lack of entrepreneurial spirit in the classroom could threaten the future prosperity of the country, the former headteacher of a leading public school has said.

"Many schools still think that they should just help students to get jobs and don't realise that it is vital that they should also be encouraging them to start their own businesses.

"If the economy is not to be blighted it is essential that schools take immediate action to teach skills and generate enthusiasm for an entrepreneurial approach to life."

Sir Antony's comments came as he launched a plan encouraging schools to teach entrepreneurship.

It includes giving pupils a chance to pitch ideas in a Dragon's Den-style set-up within a school environment, as well as "teaching innovation, leadership and team-building".

West Berkshire Council is to take over Birchwood Care Home from June, 2017.
