A mid-air crash over Buckinghamshire may have occurred because the pilots were in each other's blind spots, a former pilot has said.
David Learmount, an aviation journalist and former RAF pilot - who knows the area well - said both aircraft would have been flying in "uncontrolled airspace" close to the ground, where air traffic control is not responsible for separating them.
He told BBC Radio Oxford "you can talk to air traffic control if you like" in such areas, but the pilots would have been responsible for their own "separation".
He said visibility was good and usually when collisions like this happen it is a result of one of the pilots getting "distracted" or because both aircraft were in "each other's blind spot".

The ambulance service said there had been a number of casualties
A plane and helicopter which collided in mid-air over Buckinghamshire could have be flying in "uncontrolled airspace", according to a former air accident investigator.
Tony Cable told BBC Radio Oxford they could have been "below" an area of controlled airspace.
Air traffic control does not cover all airspace, and in such situations collision avoidance relies on "see and be seen", he said.
"All aircraft have blind areas... you might be in a helicopter descending, well generally you can't see downwards very well, so you might descend on to another aircraft."
Mr Cable, who used to fly in the area, also said it was a location where pilots might go to practice manoeuvres.
Gaia Pope's family said they are now "desperate" for answers.
