    Adam Pope
    Leeds United Commentator

The transfer ban which the Football League has imposed on Leeds United is not unexpected. Club owner Massimo Cellino (pictured) told me in the summer it was likely to happen due to the losses he inherited after taking the reins in April - and he wasn't wrong.

The accounts for the year ending 30 June showed a loss of £23m, which is way in excess of the permitted £8m allowed by the Football League for last season.

That £8m consists of an operating loss of £3m plus a further maximum of £5m of shareholder investment - so United have fallen foul on both fronts.
