    Keith Doyle

The family of 14-year-old Alice want a wide ranging inquest, called an Article Two, to examine if there were systemic failings which prevented the police knowing the man believed to be her killer had a criminal record.

Arnis Zalkalns had previously served seven years for murdering his wife in his home country of Latvia. After Alice's death, his body was found in woods and the police say he would have been charged with her murder.

  11. Night Tube talks breakdown 'a farce' say LibDemspublished at 16:53

Caroline Pidgeon, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly, external Group, said: "The farce of a delayed Night Tube is of the Mayor’s making.”

She said: “These delays are a real set back, especially for businesses that are part of London’s night time economy.

“The Mayor made a critical mistake in announcing a start date when a number of key issues were far from being resolved. By prematurely announcing a specific date he strengthened the unions’ negotiating position. “For the Mayor to now say he is ‘relaxed’ about the start date for a new service is simply a desperate attempt to cover up for his past blunder."

  12. Transport for London 'taken aback' by unions Night Tube claimspublished at 16:44

Transport for London, external has told the BBC it was surprised by the turn of events amid claims by the unions the Night Tube will not begin until 2016.

    Night Tube

A spokesman said management had thought the talks were progressing and they were surprised to learn via the media that the unions had decided to walk out of talks.

The spokesman said he would issue a full statement later.

  13. Night Tube delay analysis: More twists than Eastenderspublished at 16:11

    Tom Edwards
    Transport Correspondent, BBC London

These night tube talks between the unions and London Underground have been long and tortuous with more twists and turns than an Eastenders plot.

We still don’t have a date for the Night Tube but it looks like the last deadline of “autumn” has shifted again and it does seem the talks have run out of time.

The unions would need to consult with their members on any deal and it’d take 28 days to introduce the new rosters.

Also - and this is a point made to me by a few people – introducing a new 24-hour service during London’s party season in mid-December would not be ideal.

We are yet to get official confirmation from London Underground three hours after the unions broke this story – that, in itself, is also extremely unusual.

  14. Man in court over 'dating murder'published at 15:55

A man accused of strangling an older woman to death after meeting her on a dating website has appeared at the Old Bailey charged with her murder.

Miles Donnelly, 34, of Hall Place Paddington, allegedly stabbed and asphyxiated 44-year-old Usha Patel at the home she shared with her five-year-old son in Cricklewood, on 8 October.

The defendant, of Hall Place, Paddington, is also accused of assaulting another woman and causing her actual bodily harm the following day.

Donnelly was remanded in custody to next appear at court on 4 January.

  15. No more Night Tube talks are planned, says Acaspublished at 15:45

An Acas spokesman said: "Acas held talks today in respect of the current London Underground dispute.

"Talks adjourned today and the parties are reflecting upon their positions. There are no further talks planned at this current time.

"We remain in contact with the parties and our services remain available."

  16. Mayor 'needs to negotiate Night Tube solution with unions'published at 15:38

Sadiq Khan, Labour's candidate for mayor of London, said: "Boris Johnson could get the night Tube up and running tomorrow if he chose to.

"This is yet another sign of his failed approach to industrial relations, which has led to more strike days under his time at City Hall than under the previous mayor.

"Boris needs to pull his finger out and get round the table with the unions to negotiate a solution to this sorry state of affairs."

  17. PMQs: Corbyn tells Cameron to 'get back to reality' over London starter-homespublished at 15:35

    Susana Mendoca
    BBC London 94.9 political reporter

The Islington North MP and Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn has told David Cameron to get “back to reality” on the high cost of the government’s proposed starter-homes in London.

Mr Corbyn, who crowdsourced questions for his second Prime Minister’s Questions, raised the example of a Londoner called Matthew who couldn't afford the £450,000 price tag.

The Prime Minister said that would be the upper limit for starter-homes in London and added that the government was taking measures to get London building in order to get prices down.

  18. Terror suspects shared photo of policeman outside mosque before plotting attack, court hearspublished at 15:23

Jurors heard Haseeb Hamayoon, 28, of Hayes, sent the image to a group of friends and over the next six weeks allegedly plotted with cousins Yousaf Syed, 20, from High Wycombe and Nadir Syed, 22, from Hounslow to launch a terror attack using a knife.

The trio deny planning acts of terrorism between September 20 and November 7 last year.
