Image source, PAAnother defence expert has refused to rule out the theory that six-year-old Ellie Butler died from falling off a pink children's stool found next to her in the bedroom.
Her father, 36-year-old Ben Butler, has been on trial for her murder. He denies causing catastrophic head injuries.
Biomechanic Dr Chris Van Ee, of Wayne State University, Michigan, told jurors had she been standing on the stool, Ellie's head would have fallen 50 inches before hitting the ground.
He said it was possible a fall from that height could have caused the injuries, but said such cases were uncommon.
Image source, CascadeOn a second report he had written which dealt with medical evidence suggesting Ellie suffered two impacts to the head, he said: "If there is more than one impact, then the fall does not explain it."
Asked whether it would have made a difference if Ellie had been jumping at the time, the academic said: "It cannot add to the fall much but it could explain her loss of balance."
Mr Butler appeared agitated in the dock during cross examination and muttered "blah, blah, blah"
The trial was adjourned until Monday when Ellie's mother Jennie Gray will give evidence. The 36-year-old denies child cruelty charges.
