There had been a few sightings of Casey since he disappeared in October but, due to his very nervous nature, no-one could catch him.

His owners set up a Facebook page but it wasn't until Newark and Sherwood District Council’s dog warden team were called into action that he was returned on 21 December.

Alan Batty, from the council's dog warden service, said they had to act calmly so as not spook the dog.

"No sooner said than done, between them they had caught one very scared, tired and thin dog."
