Simon Vaughan was injured by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan in 2008. He ended up with just over £1m in compensation, insurance and other payments.
Some of that money was used to buy and convert a house at Ercall Heath, near Newport. But Simon and his wife Donna split up two years ago, so the ownership of the house and other assets the couple owned has been decided by a judge.
Today's judgment detailed the couple's finances and how it can most fairly be divided. But Simon will keep the house in which, the court heard, he's comfortable and can be supported by carers and his mum.
The ruling makes clear that this was the "first and foremost" consideration.
Meanwhile, Donna will get their previous home in Donnington, and a contribution towards paying off the mortgage, plus maintenance payments for her and their children from Mr Vaughan's continuing income.

The judge criticised the costs incurred by both sides - totaling more than £100,000.
