Speaking on BBC Scotland's Newsdrive, the travel correspondent for the Independent said: "If the effects when BMI abandoned Glasgow are anything to go by, fares will rise.

"However as people know, over the last 20 years since Easyjet came onto the scene Anglo-Scottish flights have become much more numerous.

"With Ryanair stepping up flights from the central belt, and so much competition from easyJet and other airlines, there's a limit to how much BA can put up prices."

  9. Your Viewspublished at 17:03 BST 6 October 2014

Dougie Harrison: Nicola Sturgeon can respect the referendum result insofar as she would cooperate in the ongoing negotiations. That does not mean she stops fighting for the principle of independence, and this will not damage any perceived or real healing process.

Alan Muirhead, Cumbria: Couldn't agree more that Ms Sturgeon needs to move on. There was a majority vote against going it alone. Democracy says that's it. Accept it.

Stewart Reed, Gourock: I think it is about time Carmichael realised what the SNP stand for. Their main manifesto promises are Scottish independence and the banishment of nuclear weapons from Scotland. Lib Dems have no manifesto promises as they are incapable of keeping any manifesto promises.

  20. Carmichael attacks Sturgeonpublished at 15:55 BST 6 October 2014

    David Porter
    Westminster correspondent

Mr Carmichael has also issued a strong rebuke to the Scottish nationalists - and the likely next First Minister - following the referendum vote.

He called on Nicola Sturgeon to respect last month's result, stating that until there is a public acceptance of the outcome the necessary 'healing'' will not be able to take place. His intervention follows a report attributed to Ms Sturgeon that independence was ''not a case of if but when''.

Referring to the referendum vote, Mr Carmichael said that Ms Sturgeon "has to stop speaking for the forty five percent alone - she has to speak for the 100 percent".
