Timms: 'Party must come together'

A Labour front bencher has said the party must come together and work to become the next government, after some of its MPs rebelled against the leadership in Monday night's vote on the government's Welfare Bill.

Acting Labour leader Harriet Harman had told MPs to abstain, but 48 backbenchers voted against, including eighteen newly-elected members.

Shadow work and pensions secretary Stephen Timms told the BBC the party has to be united.
