  3. I know that I have not done anything wrong - Mudrykpublished at 15:57 GMT 17 December 2024

Here is a reminder of Mykhailo Mudryk's response to the news.

"I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to The FA contained a banned substance," he wrote on Instagram.

"This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened.

"I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon. I cannot say any more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can."

  4. The legal take on Mudryk's situationpublished at 15:55 GMT 17 December 2024

Sports barrister Yasin Patel at Church Court Chambers has given his expert view on Mykhailo Mudryk's failed drug test, which came to light last night.

Patel said: "Mudryk’s failed drugs test should not be automatically accepted as proof of someone who has knowingly taken drugs. There have been many instances where a second test has proven that the first test has been wrong, or erroneous.

"This could include the conditions where the sample has been stored or transported to the laboratory. There could have also been an error in the testing, and the sample having been tampered with knowingly - or unknowingly.

"In addition, there have been instances where samples have been altered due to the conditions in which they have been taken not being sterile.

"As Mudryk has stated, he did not knowingly take anything he should not have, and so it remains to be seen what the further tests and investigations can reveal."

  5. Mudryk's time at Chelsea has gone from bad to worsepublished at 15:52 GMT 17 December 2024

Mykhailo Mudryk was already struggling at Chelsea before the results of his failed drugs test came to light.

It remains unclear what the outcome will be as the Football Association (FA) go through their process after an "adverse finding from a urine test".

But this threatens any progress the Ukraine international is attempting to make under manager Enzo Maresca.

Mudryk has struggled since his move rising up to £89m from Shakhtar in January 2023.

It took him 24 games to score his first goal for the club and - until his goal against Armenian minnows FC Noah in November - Mudryk had gone on another five month goal drought.

He has struggled to adapt to the physicality, culture and level of the Premier League and, despite playing in a host of cup matches this season, has only started one Premier League match - away at Wolves in August - when he got substituted at half time.

England and Bayern Munich midfielder Georgia Stanway on the Euro 2025 draw: "We are England, we are always going to get the hardest group, that is how it has worked out the past few draws.

"It’s a Euros, you don’t know what is going to happen, you don’t know what teams are capable of. We just have to keep working on ourselves. That is what we have been doing for the last 12 months.

"We have had some good results, some bad results, we have had some good learning opportunities. The last camp was really influential to us. It gave us a good feeling off the back of it. It’s about moving forward now.

"The draw is the draw, we have the Champions League to play, we have a season to play and we will deal with the Euros when it comes to that in the summer."

  8. 'It's a little bit weird for me' - Stanway on facing England teammatespublished at 15:43 GMT 17 December 2024

Bayern Munich midfielder Georgia Stanway on the propsect of playing against England team-mates in Wednesday's Women's Champions League game against Arsenal: "It's a little bit weird for me because I have not done it so many times in the past two-and-a-half years. It’s a little bit weird but I kind of like it. It’s really nice to see them after the game. We know what happens in the game won’t affect who we are or the friendships we have got. It’s just about going out, doing our best, enjoying it, enjoying the game and afterwards we can have a good conversation."

On Arsenal's form under interim boss Renee Slegers: "When a new manager comes in you always get a new lease of life. You get energised, you have a point to prove and the Arsenal girls have done that. It’s really good to see from the outside.

"I’m so happy that Leah [Williamson] is coming into good form, I’m so happy that Alessia [Russo] is scoring goals. As a Lioness those are things that I want to happen. I’m happy Arsenal have got their way of playing and I do think they are a really good side and tomorrow is going to be a tough game."

Any team (or player) not wanting to take seriously or play in the League Cup should withdraw or be withdrawn. Massively disrespectful to not just the competition but to the clubs to whom winning it would mean so much.

    Southampton

A final word from Southampton's interim manager Simon Rusk on whether he will take charge of Sunday's game at Fulham: "I have not been told anything about that. I'm solely focusing on Liverpool. Communication has been very clear and I'm sure we'll know after Liverpool."

  12. 'My only focus is supporting the players the best I can'published at 15:32 GMT 17 December 2024

More from Simon Rusk onwhether he would like to be in the mix for the permanent managerial position at Southampton: "I am a believer in staying present and the present for me at the moment is preparing the team to play against Liverpool. The communication has been ongoing and excellent. The best thing I can do is prepare the team the best I can.

"I've been through change before and my only focus is supporting the players the best I can and seeing what comes from that. I came here to work with the under-21s - there has been exciting talent to come out of that group and my role will always be to bring them through to influence the first team. That will remain my focus until told otherwise."

  13. 'I have my own idea on what I think is best for the team'published at 15:30 GMT 17 December 2024

Southampton v Liverpool (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Southampton

Southampton interim manager Simon Rusk on how much he can impact the squad in such a short period of time: "I think the nature of the turnaround in game time presents it's challenges. I think my job is to assess what the next game is, assess the group and come up with a game plan that is most suitable and what you believe in. That's my job and I’ve done it for a long time. I'm looking forward to it and I'm sure we'll have a good go."

On whether he believes he can tighten up the defence: "For myself, it's using my experience and the staff. I work at a club that has an excellent infrastructure. I have some great senior players within that group.

"I have been reflecting on and watching the games. I have my own idea on what I think is best, but I will work with the players on that.

"Communication is key. I am going to be looking at the strengths of the team and working with them on what we think can be better. I will hopefully put us in the best possible position to perform."

Southampton v Liverpool (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Southampton

Southampton interim manager Simon Rusk on what he was told following Russell Martin's departure after the game on Sunday: "Following the game the club made the decision and they asked if I would take care of the upcoming game against Liverpool and prepare as best I could.

"There is plenty going on but the communication was nice and clear and I was told what was expected and that has been really helpful.

"I think it's clear to see it's a tough run of games, another tough but exciting game coming up so the role for me was to organise the staff and players to perform as well as we can."

On how much contact he has had with the players: "The players have had a day off, which is fairly typical, and they've stuck to their schedule so I haven’t had a lot of communication with the players. But I've been here since the summer and they are really good guys and professionals. I am comfortable that they are a good bunch and will get around the job in front of them."

  18. How do you become a football agent?published at 15:09 GMT 17 December 2024

There will be plenty of football agents working hard behind the scenes for their clients at both Wolves and Southampton right now.

While others will be gearing up for another busy January transfer window.

Some of those will be newly qualified after taking Fifa's agent exam in November.

The exam was introduced last year to oversee the industry and ensure intermediaries are licenced, raising the professional standards.

So who is taking the exam? Why? How hard is it? What do they have to do once qualified?

BBC Sport's senior football news reporter Nick Mashiter took the exam at Wembley last month to find out.
