There are no quiet nights on Planet EFL, we should all know this by now.

Wrexham pinched a 1-0 win over Barnsley deep into added time to close within a point of League One leaders Wycombe, who gave Exeter a two-goal headstart before coming back to draw 2-2 to keep their unbeaten run going, though their 11-match winning run is at an end.

Huddersfield are up to fourth after edging Wigan while Reading and Bolton kept pace with comfortable wins as the play-off pack starts to take shape.

There was possibly even more drama in League Two as Port Vale scored after 95 minutes to stay top, though they face nearest challengers Walsall, who beat Notts County 3-2 tonight, on Saturday.

At the bottom it's not been a fairytale return to management for Ian Holloway whose Swindon side slumped to the foot of the EFL after a 4-0 hammering by fellow strugglers Colchester.

If you're thirsty for more drama then fortunately you don't have long to wait as we're back in 21-hours or so to bring you the rest of the programme, with Birmingham v Stockport top of the bill, though the first ever League Two clash between Bromley and Gillingham should be a corker too.

Thanks for your company this evening, we'll see you right back here tomorrow for more of the same! Goodnight!

At the other end of the table Leyton Orient's excellent 3-0 win at home to Bristol Rovers lifts them out of the drop zone, ahead of Northampton who lost 2-0 to mid-table Stevenage.

It isn't looking good for Cambridge who will be under pressure to win their game in hand on the Cobblers, or else their place in the League One table isn't looking too healthy...at all.

Wycombe's draw at Exeter will be seen a stumble, especially with Wrexham picking up three points against Barnsley.

The reassuring stat for the Chairboys is they still have a game in hand to make up for the slip.

Reading breach the play-off positions with a solid 3-0 win against Cambridge United, and likewise Huddersfield have done themselves no damage, further solidifying their place in the top six.

Birmingham and Stockport meet tomorrow night which could further alter the complexion of the upper echelons of the division.

A power outage which led to the floodlights failing delayed kick off by half an hour at the New York Stadium but Rotherham finished brightly to nick all three points against Lincoln.

Sam Nombe's opener for the home side was cancelled out by Jovon Makama but Sean Raggett's powerful header from a short corner routine secured the points for Steve Evans's side to nudge them away from the relegation zone.

Port Vale's late, late equaliser has kept them top of the table, for now at least, though second-placed Walsall have a game in hand and a better goal difference after their pulsating win over Notts County.

Clear your diaries for Saturday as Walsall head to Vale Park seeking to take over at the top.

MK Dons are up to third after seeing-off Chesterfield while Grimsby are up to seventh after pummelling Accrington.

Morecambe moved out of the relegation zone on goal difference after their 2-2 draw at Tranmere, who sit 20th.

  7. 'Notts will be frustrated'published at 22:00 GMT 3 December 2024

    FT: Walsall 3-1 Notts County

    Mark Stallard
Former Notts County striker on BBC Radio Nottingham

The performance was decent one from Notts County, the frustarting thing is the result.

They'll look back at the goals. They had a chance to go joint top tonight and they matched Walsall.

It's frustraing but it's a trend that they have got to win against the top teams.

You need point accumulation because that's what it's about. They performed well but fell short in the penalty areas.

Tonight's defeat puts the pressure on ahead of the game against Colchester on Saturday.

Reading and Huddersfield both enhanced their promotion hopes with wins over Cambridge and Wigan respectively

The Royals ran out convincing 3-0 winners with Lewis Wing scoring twice and Mamadi Camara adding a third.

An Ollie Turton goal early in the second period was enough for the Terriers to maintain a formidable home record and extend their unbeaten run to eight games.

A first win in six for Stevenage beating 10-man Northampton, bagging it late with two goals from Dan Kemp and Jamie Reid as stoppage time approached.

Max Anderson snatched the winner and a second victory on the bounce for Crawley who beat Nathan Jones's Charlton 2-1 at The Valley.

Leyton Orient coasted to a comfortable victory against Bristol Rovers, scoring three times before the break.

There was no complaints about the red card and with the players that Bolton have got the game changed from there.

I'm not sure what was going through Boateng's head it was stupid and that's cost his team.

You could have a criticism that the Stags didn't react but you can see that Bolton's tails were up and the atmosphere changed when their goal goes in.

The Stags were just shell-shocked and it's a tough one to take on the back of three defeats because of the performance. They limited Bolton to a few opportunities but the sending off turned it.

That one will sting because I didn't see that result until that happened.

  11. 'Wycombe will take a point'published at 21:47 GMT 3 December 2024

    FT: Exeter 2-2 Wycombe

    Sam Avery
BBC Three Counties Radio's Wycombe commentator

Wycombe didn't get going in the first half but they were much better in the second and pushed for a winner.

They were unrecognisable in the first half. After being 2-0 down you'd surely take a point.

Port Vale stay top of League Two after stealing a late equaliser to draw 1-1 with Cheltenham, through forward Ronan Curtis.

It finished AFC Wimbledon 2-2 Newport County thanks to a very late equaliser for the away side. Shane McLoughlin fired home from the spot in the 97th minute.

Colchester absolutely thumped Ian Holloway's Swindon 4-0, and Grimsby beat Accrington 5-2.

Salford beat Harrogate 2-0, and Tranmere drew 2-2 against Morecambe, who are out of the drop zone on goal difference.

Elsewhere, Bradford against Barrow finished 1-1.

Today has been goals galore, and we LOVE it.

  13. 'A decent result for Exeter City'published at 21:44 GMT 3 December 2024

    FT: Exeter 2-2 Wycombe

    Graham Kirk
    BBC Radio Devon reporter

    It was a good game.

Kind of think Exeter threw it away at 2-0 but in the context of the game it's probably a good result to be fair.

We looked more comfortable at 2-2 but I think Gary Caldwell will be pleased looking back at it tomorrow morning.

All in all a decent result for Exeter City and a positive performance. It's a game we could have lost but we've done well.

    Wrexham 1-0 Barnsley

Oli Rathbone's injury-time blockbuster has indeed won it for Wrexham.

Another home win, another clean sheet, another step towards promotion, if we can say that before Christmas.

Phil Parkinson's men make it nine wins from 10 home games and that's 200 points from 78 home games since he took charge. Extraordinary.

Barnsley will feel hard done by, but the truth is without Ben Killip's heroics in goal, the game would have been up long before the stoppage-time winner.

Wycombe's winning run comes to an end after a pulsating contest at St James Park.

Some calamitous defending allowed the Grecians to take a 2-0 lead inside 22 minutes through Milli Alli and Jack McMillan but Joe Low's header reduced the arrears and then Cameron Humphreys stroked a lovely leveller after the turnaround.

    Bolton 3-1 Mansfield

It has been a weird night at the Toughsheet. Bolton have been roundly booed for much of this match but are coasting to an easy victory.

In truth, the match spun as much on the red card to Hiram Boateng as it did on the three changes made by Ian Evatt on the hour mark.

Dion Charles with a goal, Jordi Osei-Tutu with an assist and Randell Williams (who drew the foul that saw Boateng dismissed) have changed the narrative.

    Oli Rathbone (90+3 MINS)

    WHAT A GOAL!

Oli Rathbone picks up the ball in the centre circle, drives into space as the Tykes defence back off, he opts to have a crack from 25 yards and arrows a low drive into the bottom corner, past the dive of Ben Killip to surely win it.

We said it would take something special to beat the keeper... turns out it was!
