Marquez has won 11 of the 14 races so far this season, including a record-equalling 10 in a row, with Pedrosa, Rossi and Lorenzo having won just one each.

He crashed out in the first practice session on Friday but recovered to set the second-fastest time with only compatriot Jorge Lorenzo able to out-pace him on his Yamaha. Marquez was then sixth fastest in the afternoon.

Nicholls said: "That's as soft [going] as you'd risk him on. He really wants it much better. We'll look at a race at Down Royal next month for him, but he won't run if it's too soft, and there will be plenty for him in the spring in the Ryanair [at Cheltenham] and at Aintree."
