Meanwhile, West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan has issued a statement, appealing for everyone associated with the club "to stick together and get behind the team".

The Hammers were thrashed 5-1 at home by Arsenal on Saturday and have taken just two points from their past five matches, dropping to 17th in the Premier League.

Sullivan said: "We all want the same for our fantastic club, and together we are stronger. Only by remaining united can we turn things around."

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was reluctant to talk about Saturday's incident between his side and Chelsea earlier. When he gets off the training ground this evening I wonder what he will think.

Cesc Fabregas could have been charged for his involvement in the melee at the end of the game but a three-man disciplinary panel were not in agreement over whether his conduct would have resulted in a red card.

Unless all three agree, there can be no further sanction.

So, whilst both clubs will probably be fined, the crime count is Manchester City lose two players for a total of seven matches, Chelsea don't lose anyone for any.

In announcing that Manchester City and Chelsea have been charged with failing to control their players, the FA also said that Blues midfielder Cesc Fabregas will not face any further action in relation to the incident hat saw City’s Fernandinho sent off.

More on the news that Manchester City and Chelsea have been charged with failing to control their players in Saturday's Premier League game at the Etihad Stadium.

A mass brawl broke out towards the end of the game - won 3-1 by Chelsea - as City's Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho were sent off.

Aguero was dismissed for a wild lunge on Chelsea defender David Luiz, with team-mate Fernandinho also shown a red card for clashing with Cesc Fabregas in the melee that followed.

Both clubs have until 18:00 GMT on Thursday to respond to the charge.

Shortly after the FA Cup draw, Middlesbrough will be hosting Hull in tonight's Premier League game.

Both sides were promoted from the Championship last season with Boro faring slightly better so far, sitting 16th - three places but only a point ahead of second-bottom Hull.

A win for Mike Phelan's side is likely to lift them up to 15th while if Middlesbrough were victorious they'd rise to 13th.

The hosts have lost just once in their past five matches, drawing three and losing one. Hull have won one, lost three and drawn one in the same period.

Simply watching it on the tele is not the only way you can follow the FA Cup third-round draw. Oh no.

We'll be running a live text service on this website, which will include a live stream of the draw and reaction from fans and pundits once it's taken place.

There will also be a Facebook Live on the Match of the Day Facebook page, featuring all kinds of graphics and detailed analysis of all 64 ties.

So much choice...

A reminder that the FA Cup third-round draw is live on the BBC later, as Premier League and Championship teams enter the action for the first time.

The draw, which will be made by former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and ex-Arsenal striker Ian Wright, can be seen on BBC Two from 19:00 GMT.

Barrow, who upset League One Bristol Rovers, are among the non-league sides hoping to land a lucrative tie.

The 32 third-round ties will be played across the weekend of 6-9 January 2017.

You can see all the teams entered, and the numbers allocated to them, here.

England Lions have wrapped up a 3-0 series win against the United Arab Emirates following a 16-run victory in the final one-day match.

The Lions, led by Nick Gubbins following Keaton Jennings' departure to join the England Test squad in India, had to withstand a home fightback from 31-year-old international debutant Adnan Mufti in Dubai.

Pakistan-born Mufti finished with a List A career-best 69 from 80 balls at number seven but was last out at the start of the 49th over, leaving UAE on 207 in pursuit of 223 for eight.

Middlesex off-spinner Ollie Rayner and Somerset seamer Craig Overton took three for 27 and three for 29 respectively.

Tiger Woods made his return to action last week, finishing 15th of the 17 players who completed the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.

Our golf correspondent Iain Carter had this to say about Woods' performance: "His comeback after more than 15 months recovering from multiple back surgeries was marked by some brilliant play - no-one matched his 24 birdies - which was offset by too many costly errors."

Tiger Woods' 15th place (out of 17 finishers) at the Hero World Challenge has given him a major world rankings boost. Granted, the American former number one, couldn't have been much lower at 898 prior to his return from injury, but he now finds himself 248 places better off, in 650th place.

Ivory Coast or England? It is soon going to be time for Wilfried Zaha to make his mind up on who he wants to represent.

Abidjan-born Zaha grew up in England and won two caps for the Three Lions, but because they were in friendly games he is allowed to switch allegiance and ivory Coast are confident they have convinced him to join them.

However, new permanent England boss Gareth Southgate said: "We are still hopeful that we can speak to Wilf."

Evidently, Pep Guardiola is not keen on being pushed to discuss subjects he has no wish to talk about.

The Manchester City manager was not rude in avoiding debate about Sergio Aguero and the fracas at the end of his side's home defeat by Chelsea on Saturday.

He was not particularly aggressive either.

But with his one word answers and fixed stare, he made it pretty plain anyone who ventured onto the top was going to get short shrift.

Newcastle is bidding to host both major European cup finals in 2018.

If successful, Newcastle United's home will stage the Champions Cup final and Newcastle Falcons' Kingston Park will host the Challenge Cup final.

A final decision will be made in April 2017.

The next stage of the bidding process sees a shortlist of candidate cities drawn up by 16 December, followed by venue visits and a selection process through to March 2017.

St James' Park, with a capacity in excess of 52,000, staged matches in the 2015 Rugby World Cup (above) as well as playing host to rugby league's Magic Weekend for the past two seasons.

Hull's Sam Clucas returns from a ban, while Ryan Mason is available after missing out in midweek because of illness.
