Liverpool

Something else important is happening in Liverpool's world today: the official renaming of their main stand.

Kenny Dalglish, one of the most influential figures in the club's history as a player in 515 games and a manager across two different spells, is being honoured.

Manchester United

Bit of team news from Jose Mourinho ahead of tomorrow's trip to Anfield: "Michael Carrick can't play. Romelu Lukaku looks fine."

Southampton

Mauricio Pellegrino has another striking option at his disposal for Sunday's home game against Newcastle. The Southampton manager says Shane Long should be fit.

Manchester United

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho on the atmosphere at Anfield: "When people speak about big atmosphere it looks like we don't like it. It is what we want. I am surprised you speak about that in a negative way. I am even more surprised when ex players speak about the atmosphere as if it was something sinister or to worry about. If we could have the same atmosphere in every match we would.

"When Barca played Las Palmas empty stadium, we they happy with that? Wouldn't Las Palmas want to play at the Nou Camp when it was fill? When we play at home, we complain when no big enthusiasm. We know fans have huge animosity. It is what we want. Happy to have one more opportunity to play in these conditions. Beautiful to play at Anfield."

Manchester United

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho on his side's unbeaten start: "We have more points. Last season we lost a few points before Liverpool. We lost points at home v West Ham, in these matches you say you win before you play.

"Now we have more points. Better position in the table. More confident. You get better results when you are more confident.

"It is a match where you don't look to Liverpool as a team in middle of table. At the end of the season they won't be there. Not with the potential and quality of their players. It is a very difficult match for us. I think they think it is also difficult for them."

Newcastle United

There were reports recently of a training-ground bust-up at Newcastle between defender Jamaal Lascelles and midfielder Mo Diame.

United boss Rafa Benitez has had this to say on the issue: “I’ve seen worse. It was normal, it sometimes happens. Now they will buy lunch for everyone.”

He has also discussed Sunday's encounter with Southampton, now managed by a man he managed at Valencia and Liverpool, Mauricio Pellegrino...

“Mauricio Pellegrino was my player and was my assistant in Italy. He is already a good manager but he will be even better,” said Rafa. "He knows everything about me so he has an advantage. But then he was my player, so maybe I know all about him."

It is fair to say Jose Mourinho does not like to be told his tactics were negative in Manchester United's visit to Liverpool last season.

United offered little in attack during the 0-0 draw and the expectation is Mourinho will be slightly more expansive when his team goes to Anfield tomorrow lunchtime.

But probably not quite as expansive as the United boss made out in a somewhat ironic answer in his press conference at a rainy Carrington this afternoon.

He said: "New system. Nine strikers, don't worry about it."

Manchester United

Is it disrespectful to you and opponents to say this is your first proper test?

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho: "For us, I am not bothered but it is disrespectful to opponents. Not nice. Everybody knows, don't need to hide, there are some better teams than others. That is logical.

"For these teams that are not going to be top three top four, to so say playing against them it is easy matches, it is a bit aggressive to them. We drop points last season in many matches that you consider to be won before we start to play. We lost a lot of these points."

Manchester United

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, on playing Liverpool: "Just one more match. Could be 1st, 8th or last. Maybe if it was the last then it would be more important but it is October, so for me is just another match.

"I understand the tradition and emotions around supporters. We have to look at it in professional way. Every match is important. No match is easy. If I try this mentality I am not going to say this game is more important than others."

Manchester United

Right then, who's ready to hear what Jose Mourinho has got to say? The chat from the Manchester United manager is incoming...

Southampton

Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino used to play under Sunday's opposite number, Rafa Benitez, when the Newcastle manager was in charge at Valencia and Liverpool.

Pellegrino has just told reporters: "I will always be grateful to Rafa Benitez for what he has done for me, both professionally and personally."

It won't stop him aiming to take three points off his old gaffer, though. "Perhaps we didn’t deserve to lose our last two games," added Pellgrino. "It’s very important that we get a result against Newcastle."

Crystal Palace

Palace boss Roy Hodgson believes his squad is working as hard as they can as they aim to get off the mark in the Premier League.

The Eagles are grounded at the bottom of the table with no points - and no goals - in their seven matches so far.

"From day one the players have been up for the fight," says the former England manager. "We need to operate better as a unit - training ground work helps that."

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have received a timely boost as they look to kickstart their season... Wilf Zaha is back in contention after injury.

"He has trained for two weeks and there is no reason why he shouldn't be in contention to play," Palace boss Roy Hodgson says.

"We need to give him time. He's been out for six weeks and was initially predicted to be out longer. Tough ask to find his form."

Manchester City

For those still thinking of pitching Sergio Aguero back into their fantasy football teams, here's some more from Pep Guardiola on Manchester City's talisman...

"He’s not 100%, he explained what would happen, what would have happened, now we are happy he is back to training," said the Blues boss.

Reading between the lines, I think he means that Aguero has explained how he feels fortunate that he wasn't injured more seriously in that Amsterdam car crash.

The Argentina striker opened up about the incident during the recent international break., external

Brighton & Hove Albion

Good news for Brighton. Boss Chris Hughton has just confirmed that midfielder Davy Propper and striker Glenn Murray will be fit to face Everton this Sunday.

Manchester City

Manchester City are top of the Premier League pile going into the weekend, leaving Pep Guardiola pretty content. But, ever the perfectionist, he wants more...

"I am so happy with what we have done of course but still we have a good gap to improve but I am really impressed," says the former Spain international.

"Stoke will be a tough tough game, they are so defensive, the back five is well organised and they have a good goalkeeper."

Chelsea

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte: "We are trying to do this last season (play young players). A lot of young players played different games.

"This season we started to give the opportunity in the Carabao Cup. This season could be a good opportunity for the young players to play with Chelsea.

"Charly Musonda is a player who has an opportunity to play. We have three number 10s. Usually two play. He is a talented player and I am sure about his career if his attention is on the pitch, not social media (he recently posted on Instagram about a lack of game time)."
