    Results

We began the day in the North East, where eighth-tier Warrington Town's fairytale FA Cup run came to an end at the hands of Conference side Gateshead.

Of our eight 14:00 GMT kick-offs, the limelight belonged to non-leaguers Dover, who went to Cheltenham Town of League Two and came away with victory, while Aldershot, Worcester City and Chester did themselves proud by holding League One clubs Rochdale, Scunthorpe and Barnsley to credible draws.

And we finished things off with a grandstand finish in Essex, where Colchester grabbed an injury-time winner to send fellow third-tier club Peterborough crashing out.

Scunthorpe manager Mark Robins told BBC Radio Humberside: "We weren't good enough. We were lacklustre and we weren't as good as we've been. But then again, I've got three or four players out and those changes make a difference to us. We're still in the hat. We've got to go down to Kidderminster to play in this game against Worcester and there's more work to do. We need to be better and work harder than we did today."

Scunthorpe went ahead through Paddy Madden's first-half goal but the League One side were pegged back after half-time, with Daniel Nti equalising for the Conference North visitors and earning Worcester a replay.

Worcester City goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan told BBC Midlands Today:, external "It was an unbelievable game and I think we've proved a few people wrong. People thought we would be a one-hit wonder after beating Coventry, but we've turned up today, started horrifically, but then we grew into the game and could have nicked it at the end. We've given a good account of ourselves again."

Worcester City captain Ellis Deeney on Twitter:, external "What a game and what a result. In the hat for Monday night. Can't wait for the replay."

Conference North club Worcester could draw Watford, the Championship side for whom Ellis's brother Troy plays, in round three.

  7. Post-match reactionpublished at 18:45 GMT 7 December 2014

Southport manager Gary Brabin:, external "I'm delighted, not just that we got through, but the performance today was outstanding. We thoroughly deserved it. We've worked on a change of shape. I went to watch Eastleigh in midweek and I thought it was a good time to try something different. I'm an Evertonian and I would love to play Everton at Goodison Park."

Eastleigh manager Richard Hill told BBC Radio Solent:, external "Sometimes the opposition stop you from playing, sometimes the officials stop you from playing, and most definitely today the officials have stopped us from playing. In the magnitude of this game for these two clubs, that performance from that referee was just not good enough. It's not a red card. It's a blatant foul but it's halfway in our half. It's a yellow card. He's probably the best part of 40 yards from goal but there's a lot that can happen in 40 yards."

Dean Beckwith's red card proved the turning point as Southport beat fellow Conference side Eastleigh to book a place in the third round.

Gateshead manager Gary Mills: "It's 60 years since this club have been in the third round so I'm delighted to be able to be in that hat."

Warrington manager Shaun Reid: "I wish them all the best in the next round because they've earned the right. I'm not going to emphasise what's gone wrong for us. I've enjoyed the journey."

BBC Sport's Kevin Kilbane: "The win against Exeter will live long in the memory. It was one of the highlights of not just this season's FA Cup, but for years to come. Shaun Reid can be proud of the way his team have performed throughout the run."

BBC Sport's Leroy Rosenior: "They've been magnificent. Unfortunately today Craig Robinson and Karl Wills have made slight mistakes after being heroes in the first round, but that's football. Gateshead are a terrific side. John Oster was tremendous today and Warrington did well to stick it out against that Gateshead side."

Eighth-tier Warrington's FA Cup journey is over following a 2-0 defeat by Conference side Gateshead.

BBC Sport's Leroy Rosenior: "Telford made it uncomfortable for Bristol City. As it wore on, Telford were getting more and more belief and Bristol City were getting more and more frantic. You feel for Telford because, over the 90 minutes, they maybe just deserved to take Bristol City back to their place."

Kieran Agard's winner spared the blushes of League One leaders Bristol City as they beat Conference strugglers Telford.

Dean Beckwith's red card for Eastleigh caused a difference of opinion between our experts...

BBC Sport's Kevin Kilbane: "I think it's a clear red card. The striker's away and as soon as the challenge is made, I don't think the referee's got any other option."

BBC Sport's Leroy Rosenior: "I think he's kicked it so far ahead of him, he'd be lucky to cross it. That's why it should be a yellow card. But Southport took advantage of it."

Southport are one of five non-league clubs definitely into the third round.

  12. Post-match reaction - highlights now on BBC Twopublished at 18:34 GMT 7 December 2014

Chester manager Steve Burr: "We haven't done it yet, but the lads were terrific today. It will send the fans back home happy but we've still got another tough game ahead of us."

Chester goalkeeper Jon Worsnop: "Early on I went in for a 50-50 challenge and took a knock on the head. I think I've cracked my cheekbone but that's the life of a goalkeeper."

BBC Sport's Leroy Rosenior: "It was a great 0-0. I was up and down out of my seat all afternoon watching it. Chester were fantastic from start to finish. Jon Worsnop was terrific and Barnsley's Ross Turnbull made a couple of excellent saves. I'm really pleased Chester got the draw because they deserved it."

BBC Sport's Kevin Kilbane: "The way Chester played today - both sides had chances - but with Chester going back home, it's a great opportunity for them."

A 0-0 draw at Oakwell means Barnsley and Chester will do it all again in a second-round replay.

What a remarkable end to what was, for long periods, a bit of a non-event of an FA Cup tie. Sam Walker's wonderful save from Aaron Mclean's penalty set the platform for George Moncur to snatch an injury-time winner.

  14. Post-match reaction - highlights now on BBC Twopublished at 18:28 GMT 7 December 2014

Worcester manager Carl Heeley: "There wasn't any ranting and raving at half-time. We're 13 games unbeaten and we've done incredibly well to get to the second round of the FA Cup. To not do yourselves justice when you get there is not acceptable and you'll regret it for the rest of tour life. We spoke about relaxing, enjoying the occasion and doing what they do every week. They came out on the front foot and started to out Scunthorpe under pressure."

Worcester goalscorer Daniel Nti: "This is what dreams are made of. You could pull a world-class side. We're just so excited and waiting for Monday."

BBC Sport's Leroy Rosenior: "In the first half, they tried to impose themselves physically and it caused them a few problems. They gave away free-kicks in daft places, instead of concentrating on their football and what's got them to this stage of the FA Cup. When you go in with that intention, you forget what good players you are."

BBC Sport's Kevin Kilbane: "They're a good footballing side. They came and put on a really good show in the second half. It was a much more positive performance."

Daniel Nti's equaliser was enough to earn Conference North side Worcester a replay against League One outfit Scunthorpe.

Whistles ringing around the stadium but still the referee lets play go on. Posh free-kick for offside, everybody is forward.

There are three minutes of stoppage time and it's not looking promising for Peterborough. They need to launch the ball forward.

And, would you believe it, George Moncur has only gone and stolen it for Colchester! He shifts the ball onto his left foot on the edge of the area and strokes it perfectly into the bottom corner, with Ben Alnwick absolutely motionless. What an amazing end to what has been, for long periods, a fairly drab FA Cup tie.

  20. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 18:21 GMT 7 December 2014

Every save from a penalty is a good one - but that's among the very best you're likely to see. Aaron Mclean drills his penalty hard and low to Sam Walker's right-hand side but, as has been the case all evening, the goalkeeper comes out on top. Brilliant, brilliant save.
